Larkin claims two wins in Rockford

ROCKFORD - After some intense games at the 205 Tipoff Classic, Larkin finally enjoyed a laugher in their final game of the tournament. The Royals led Rockford East 21-2 after one quarter and coasted to a 79-57 win Saturday, after beating Rockford Guilford 70-60 in their first game of the day.

It couldn't have come at a better time. Playing their second game of the day and fifth in 5 days, the Royals took the opportunity to rest the starters and give everybody some minutes. Fourteen Royals saw action, and 10 of them scored.

Kashmir Ivy led 3 Royals in double figures with 14 points. Kindrell Morris and Anthony Lynch added 13 apiece. Jalen Shaw, who scored 31 points in the Saturday morning win against Rockford Guilford, settled for 9 points along with 7 boards and a couple of blocks.

Lynch added 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and a block for Larkin (3-2). Isaiah Talley added 6 points, 6 boards and 2 blocks.

The Royals jumped on the E-Rabs early and never let up. Larkin scored the game's first 20 points as East missed its first 7 shots.

"It's a little different than the previous couple games, and I'm definitely happy with the way we started," said Larkin coach Deryn Carter. "I thought our energy didn't lapse. When you're up big, you worry about guys not continuing to play hard, but we didn't have to worry about that."

The Royals continued to build the advantage, going up 59-27 on a Morris 3-pointer before the E-Rabs started to claw their way back.

With the big lead, Carter was able to give his bench some big minutes, and he got some big contributions. Jackson Rueter had 9 points off the bench and Gunnar Boley added 8.

Charles Burnell led East with 16 points. Chris Burnell scored 11 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter as he tried to rally the E-Rabs.

Chris Burnell scored a basket then added an old-fashioned 3-point play to make it 65-45 in the late going. After a Larkin bucket, Chris Burnell scored again and was fouled. He missed the free throw, but Devontae Sims put it back to make it 67-49, but that was close as East could get.

In the win over Guilford, Ivy added 16 points for the Royals and Lynch had 12.
