Hononegah has too much for Huntley

Too strong. Too Fast. Too Talented.

Those words aptly described Hononegah's boys basketball matchup with Huntley in Friday night's third round action in the Crystal Lake Central Thanksgiving Tournament.

Hononegah dominated the overmatched Red Raiders 63-40 to up its mark to 3-0. Huntley drops to 1-2 for the campaign.

"Just like Barrington and Geneva, Hononegah has a great program and is very good every year," said Huntley coach Will Benson. "This is a great tournament and we don't come here to play average teams. They gave us some matchup problems with their talent and quickness. They beat us up and down the court with their transition game. We had too many unforced turnovers. I like the effort and we took a step forward tonight. We have to keep improving."

With 4:20 remaining in the third quarter, Huntley climbed within 10 of the Indians 37-27 on a putback from Mathew Seng.

Unfortunately for the Raiders, they didn't score anymore points in the quarter.

With Josh Donaldson scoring 6 points along with a trey from Mitch Massino, the Indians scored the final 9 points of the quarter and led by 19, 46-27, after three quarters of play.

On a trey by Donaldson, Hononegah completed a 12-0 run and upped its advantage to 49-27 with 7:11 left in the contest.

The Indians' biggest lead of the night was 27, 61-34, after a putback from Austin Hennis with 2:12 remaining in the contest.

Seng paced the Raiders with 12 points and 7 rebounds.

Huntley, which turned the ball over 22 times, also got 7 points from Zack Loveisky.

"You can't have over 20 possessions against a team like Hononegah without even a shot taken," said Benson. "We have to take care of the ball better. That is something we have to work on in practice."

Max Miller registered a double-double for the winners with 15 points and 11 rebounds while Josh Donaldson added 11 points with 3 assists and 4 steals for the Indians.
