Eastern, Evanston stop St. Viator; Hoffman Estates gets first win

Boys basketball tournament host St. Viator slipped to 0-2 after suffering a 65-44 loss to highly regarded Evanston on Tuesday.

Andrew Soukup led the Lions with 20 points, and sophomore Jeremiah Hernandez contributed 10.

Nojel Eastern pacd Evanston with 20 points (including 2 dunks) to go with 6 rebounds. Chris Hamil added 12 points and Jaheim Holden scored 10 for the Wildkits.

Evanston (2-0) broke out to a 31-18 halftime lead and led 43-27 after three quarters.

St. Viator next faces Prospect at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Hoffman Estates 53, Niles West 52: The Hawks improved to 1-1 with a victory in tournament play at Glenbrook North.

Northridge Prep 36, Wheeling 32: The Wildcats came up short in their Battle for the Ridge opener against host Northridge Prep.

Mundelein 61, Elk Grove 51: At Mundelein, the host Mustangs (1-1) earned their first win of the season while the Grens dropped their season opener.

Grayslake Central 101, Christian Liberty 62: Grayslake Central defeated Christian Liberty Academy 101-62 on Tuesday in the Bison Classic hosted by Buffalo Grove.

Scoring in double figures for Grayslake Central (1-1) were Justin Shepley (17 points), Ryan Spicer (14), Bill Drevline (14, including four 3s), Alec Novak (13) and Jack Spalding (12).

Junior guard Jesse Castro led all scorers with 32 points for Christian Liberty (0-2).
