Leyden wins second straight

Girls basketball

After a tough 2-point loss to Addison Trail in its opener, Leyden's girls basketball team has bounced back with two straight wins at the Addison Trail/Fenton Thanksgiving Tournament.

The Eagles improved to 2-1 with a 47-42 triumph over Lane Tech on Monday night.

Leyden coach Stephanie Kuzmanic watched junior guard Annissa Lemon deliver a game-high 15 points followed by classmate and backcourt partner Serena Caraballo's 10 points.

Junior guards Amalia Figueroa and Pamela Colmenares chipped in 9 and 7 points respectively for the Eagles, who wrap up play in the tourney on Tuesday against Elgin at 5:30 p.m.

Antioch 51, Elk Grove 25: The Grenadiers (now 1-3 in the Vernon Hill tourney) were led by senior guard Jenny Banak and freshman guard Emily Sitkowski, who each scored 5 points. Freshman guard Megan Murray added 4 points for the Grens, who play Lake Forest at 6 p.m. in Tuesday's final game of the tourney.

With her first basket of the game, Amy Reiser of Antioch (3-1) scored her 1,000th career point on her way to finishing with 9 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, and 8 steals.
