Wauconda wins its own tournament
Wauconda's girls basketball team used a strong defensive effort to capture the championship of its own Thanksgiving tournament Monday night.
Hayley Sutherland had 10 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals, and Allie Tylka added 10 points, 3 rebounds and 2 blocked shots for the Bulldogs, who beat Richmond-Burton 32-20.
Wauconda (3-0, 3-0 tourney) also got a big game from Katie Rossetti, who had 8 points, 8 rebounds, 6 steals and 5 blocks.
Antioch 51, Elk Grove 25: At Vernon Hills, Amy Reiser scored her 1,000th career point, as the Sequoits cruised in the Cougar Classic.
Reiser reached her milestone point with her first basket. She finished with 9 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, and 8 steals. Ashley Reiser added 11 points and picked up 7 rebounds. She also forced 4 steals and had 4 assists.
Erika Gallimore scored in the double digits with 10 points, while her defense forced 5 turnovers. Gallimore also nabbed 6 rebounds.
Antioch (3-1) raps up the tournament against host Vernon Hills at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Vernon Hills 40, Lake Forest Academy 29: At Vernon Hills, Becky Bahlmann had 11 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 blocks for the host Cougars.
Katie Burrows had 7 points for Vernon Hills (2-2), and Kayla Caudle added 6 points and 15 rebounds.
