EAST SUBURBAN CATHOLIC CONFERENCE

CARMEL CORSAIRS

Coach: Zack Ryan (3rd season)

Last year: 13-18 (0-9 East Suburban Catholic Conference)

Last year's tournament finish: Lost in regional championship, 57-56.

Key players lost: G CJ Duff (Western Illinois), C Sean Foster (football at Iowa State), F Matt Stephens

Key players returning: G Johnny Roeser, soph., F Lukas Galdoni, soph., F John Barr, sr., G Brian Julien, sr., G Zion Kilpatrick, jr.

Newcomers: F Jalen Snell, soph., G Dominic Speights, sr., G Evan Myers, soph., F Brandon Evans, jr., Damone Williams-Gray, soph.

Outlook: Carmel will be young in age, but not necessarily in experience. Four sophomores are among the team's most talented players, and all four saw varsity action last year as freshmen. Forward Johnny Roeser started almost every game last year for the Corsairs and put together several 20-point games. He averaged 8 points and 3 rebounds per game. Forward Lukas Galdoni also started games last year for Carmel as a freshman, and forward Jalen Snell saw varsity minutes in his rookie season, too. On top of that, Carmel welcomes in Evan Myers, a transfer from Glenbrook North. A sharp-shooter, Myers got varsity minutes last year as a freshman. "Our sophomore group is outstanding," Carmel coach Zack Ryan said. "We are very excited about this team and the direction of the program. We are very young, but have a lot of kids that saw playing time as freshmen and sophomores." As far as the veterans go, Carmel has only three seniors, including returning leading scorer Brian Julien, a guard who averaged 11 points per game. "He should be one of the best guards in the area," Ryan said of Julien. "He's started since he was a sophomore. Senior John Barr and junior Zion Kilpatrick will also get heavy minutes. Damone Williams-Gray is another talented sophomore on the roster but he won't be eligible to play until next season due to IHSA transfer rules. Williams-Gray is a transfer from Niles North.

Opener: Monday, 6 p.m. vs. Rockford Auburn at Grant
