Batavia, Elgin open with wins
Batavia's girls basketball team opened the season Tuesday night with a 56-37 nonconference win over Neuqua Valley.
Hailey Orman led the way for the Bulldogs with 12 points, all coming on 3-pointers. Geddy Rerko added 10 points while Elena Cabrera had 8 points and Morgan Erickson added 7.
Elgin 33, Fenton 28: Kylie Graves scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Maroons to a season-opening win at the Fenton/Addison Trail tournament.
ACC 54, Somonauk 28: Shakira Del Toro had 13 points and Taylor Harazin added 11 as the Chargers won for the second straight night at the Somonauk tournament. Alex Johnston added 8 points for Aurora Central (2-0).
Westminster Christian 40, Hiawatha 36: Elise Van Noord led the way for the Warriors with 21 points in their season-opening win at the Elgin Academy tournament. Sophie Kovachevich (6 points), Emily Lamp (5 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals) and Mica Glanzer (10 rebounds) also contributed for Westminster.
Timothy Christian 42, Aurora Christian 31: Tori Henning had 13 points to lead Aurora Christian (0-1) in this loss at the AC/IMSA tournament.
