Wachal nets 28 in Conant's first win

Conant's girls basketball team earned its first win of the season on Tuesday night in Elmhurst by defeating Downers Grove South 48-29 in the second round of the York Thanksgiving Tournament.

The Cougars (1-1) were led by senior Jorie Wachal's 28 points, which included 12 of 15 free throws and four 3-pointers.

Senior Michelle Benson chipped in 5 points for Conant.

Maine West 56, Hoffman Estates 36: Maine West won its second straight game and first in the Hoffman Estates Thanksgiving tournament which began on Tuesday night.

Junior Jessica Riedl led the Warriors (2-0) for the second straight night, this time scoring a game-high 16 points followed by classmates Catherine Johnson (11) and Alisa Fallon (10).

Junior Tayler Williams led the tourney-host Hawks (0-1) with 15 points, including three 3-pointers while sophomore Kate Mongold chipped in 8 and freshman Alysa Dupart 7.

York 52, Prospect 43: The Knights (0-2 at the York Thanksgiving Tournament) were led by junior guard Margherite Pettenuzzo (13 points), junior Emily Frasco (9 points, two 3-pointers, 2 blocked shots) and senior Haley Will (7 points).

Sophomore Mandy Withey (3 steals) led with 7 rebounds while senior Maggie Determann had a pair of swipes.

The Knights fell behind 24-10 at half before outscoring the tourney host 32-29 in the final two quarters.

Stevenson 48, St. Viator 32: St. Viator (0-1) was led by junior guard Myia Clark (14 points, one 3-pointer) and senior Jenna Breslin (6 points) as the Lions kicked off play in the Schaumburg Thanksgiving Tournament.
