Mundelein 37, Highland Park 35: Rachel Tipperreiter scored 17 points, including five 3-pointers in the second half, and Mundelein's girls basketball team opened its season by defeating Highland Park 37-35 as part of Mundelein's Thanksgiving tournament on Monday night.

The tourney resumes on Tuesday with Mundelein taking on Carmel at 7:30 p.m.

Vernon Hills 57, Elk Grove 25: Senior forward Becky Bahlmann scored a game-high 16 points to help the Cougars roll to a season-opening win in the tournament they are hosting.

Senior guard Katie Burrows also scored in double figures for Vernon Hills with 13 points.

Sycamore 42, Antioch 39, OT: The Sequoits were outscored 8-5 in the extra session in tournament play at Vernon Hills.

Senior guard Amy Reiser scored a game-high 20 points, with 6 field goals and 8-for-11 foul shooting, and Erika Gallimore had 8 for Antioch.
