Hersey edges Dundee-Crown

Hersey's boys basketball team earned a regional semifinal opportunity by edging Dundee-Crown 44-42 in Monday's play-in round of the Class 4A McHenry regional.

Seeded No. 11 in the Fremd sectional, the Huskies (14-13) meet No. 6 seed Lake Park in a 7 p.m. Wednesday matchup.

Dundee-Crown, the No. 22 seed, ends its season at 3-23.

Zack Cooper led Hersey with 15 points and Mark Milligan had 14. D-C's top scorer was Jack Orndahl with 11 points.

In the first game Monday at McHenry, the host Warriors topped Cary-Grove 48-39.

McHenry (14-15) advances to a 7 p.m. Tuesday matchup with No. 3 seed Lake Zurich (21-9), while Cary-Grove ends the season 6-21.

Loyola regional: No. 14 seed Waukegan ended Maine West's season by topping the No. 20 Warriors 51-36.

Maine West wraps up the season 6-23 while Waukegan (13-17) advanced to a 6 p.m. Tuesday contest against the Glenbrook South sectional's No. 4 seed, Notre Dame.

In the second game at Loyola, the host Ramblers advanced by ousting Mundelein 71-54. Twelfth-seeded Loyola (15-14) advances to face No. 5 New Trier (17-9) in a 7:30 p.m. Tuesday game.

Whitney Young regional: Leyden, the No. 21 seed in the Riverside-Broofield sectional, staved off elimination by topping No. 12 Prosser 48-38 on Monday in Chicago.

The Eagles (8-19) advance to a 7 p.m. Wednesday semifinal against No. 5 seed De La Salle at Whitney Young.
