Ulrich paces Palatine; Sliwa leads Fremd

Senior guard Matt Ulrich scored a season-high 24 points to lift host Palatine past Hersey 64-50 on Tuesday in a Mid-Suburban League boys basketball divisional crossover.

Ulrich canned five 3s (and scored 22 points) in the second half.

Sophomore guard Johnny O'Shea had 10 points for the Pirates (17-12), who led by 1 point at the half but scored 23 points in the third quarter and 19 in the fourth while limiting the Huskies to 8 points in the fourth quarter.

Zack Cooper paced Hersey (13-13) with 13 points and Joe Coffaro scored 11.

Fremd 53, Rolling Meadows 39: Junior guard Kyle Sliwa had a game-high 19 points and sophomore guard Ryan Martin had 13 more for host Fremd in MSL crossover action.

Sliwa drained four 3s, and Fremd finished 14-for-18 at the free throw line while improving to 21-6 overall.

Junior forward Jared Murphy led the way for Rolling Meadows (7-19) with 18 points.

Elk Grove 52, Hoffman Estates 49: The visiting Grens fought back from an early deficit, then made free throws at the end to hold off of the Hawks in an MSL crossover.

Hoffman Estates senior guard Jorden Thornton scored a game-high 22 points, and Brandon Hall had 13 for the Hawks (10-17).

MSL East co-champion Elk Grove (18-9) was led by Joe Gatziolis (15 points), Bradley Hubly (14), Fulton Wingba (11) and Tyree Howard (8).

Hoffman Estates led 9-2 after scoring on its first five possessions before Elk Grove outscored the Hawks 13-8 in the second quarter to force a 23-23 halftime tie.

The second half was close the whole way, never more than a two-possesion lead for either team.

Howard made a pair of free throws with 13 seconds left to help Elk Grove protect its lead down the stretch.

Barrington 63, Buffalo Grove 47: Junior center Jackson Perkins had 16 points, Will Reinhard scored 14 and Ben Weber had 13 to help host Barrington past Buffalo Grove 63-47 on Tuesday in MSL crossover play.

The Broncos (14-13) jumped in front with a 24-point first quarter.

Joey Pinakidis paced Buffalo Grove (9-17) with 9 points, and Colin Calcagno, Nolan Fortman and Jack Vaselaney had 6 apiece.

Class 1A at Christian Liberty: Schaumburg Christian's boys basketball team advanced to the semifinal round of the Class 1A Christian Liberty regional by topping Lombard College Prep 84-54 on Tuesday.

The scoring output marks a season-best for the Conquerors, who meet Deerfield Rochelle Zell at approximately 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the semifinal round. Zell advanced by defeating Christian Liberty.

Top seed Westminster Christian (Elgin) meets Islamic Foundation (Villa Park) at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The winners of the Wednesday games will meet at 7:30 p.m. Friday for the regional title.
