Conant's Wachal earns Daily Herald MVP honor

Conant junior guard Jorie Wachal has earned Daily Herald MVP recognition for her recent high school girls basketball performance.

Jorie Wachal, Conant: The 5-foot-10 junior guard produced her fifth scoring game of 30 more points this season, tossing in a game-high 36 points in a 45-35 victory at the Class 4 Elk Grove regional play-in game against the host Grenadiers. Wachal connected for five 3-pointers and was 7-of-8 on free throws.

Alyssa Iverson, Harvest Christian: This 5-foot-8 sophomore guard helped her team to its second-straight Class 1A regional championship by scoring 24 points in a 59-20 semifinal win over Christian Liberty then coming back with 24 more points and 10 steals in a 66-44 win over Westminster Christian in the championship game.

Elise Stout, Benet: The senior scored 18 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, dished 6 assists and added 3 steals in the Redwings' senior night 69-39 rout of Marian Central to clinch the school's first East Suburban Catholic Conference girls basketball championship since 1998.

Madison Wicklund, Stevenson: Coach Ashley Graham has lauded her 6-foot junior's willingness to accept her role on the team. As the Patriots' first player off the bench, Wicklund has produced all season. She did again in the North Suburban Conference title game, scoring 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting and blocking 2 shots in a 49-46 win over Antioch.
