Lisle's McGrath nets Daily Herald MVP recognition

Lisle junior forward Mark McGrath has earned Daily Herald MVP honors for his recent high school boys basketball performances.

Mark McGrath, Lisle: The 6-foot-2 junior forward recorded consecutive double-doubles over Interstate Eight foes. He scored 25 points with 14 rebounds in a 59-52 win over Manteno and followed with 22 points, 12 rebounds, 3 blocks in a 75-61 win over Wilmington. McGrath hit 18 of 26 field-goal tries, 69 percent.

Ryan David, Kaneland: This 6-foot-4 guard/forward played a key role in helping the Knights, winners of 8 of their last 9, complete a weekend sweep of two teams with 36 combined wins. The senior shook off early foul trouble to help Kaneland roar back for a 62-56 win over DeKalb (21-4), including a pair of fourth-quarter 3-pointers that erased a 6-point deficit. The next night David was one of four Knights in double figures with 11 points in a 68-48 victory over Marian Central (15-7).

Bryan Nee, Wauconda: The eight-win Bulldogs have had a better February (3-3 record), and Nee has been key. The senior guard scored a game-high 19 points, going 11 of 14 from the foul line, in a 60-47 upset of Grant. He then duplicated the 19-point effort against Warren. He sank six 3-pointers, as the Bulldogs dropped a 63-57 decision.

Ben Weber, Barrington: The 6-foot-1 senior guard scored a game-high 23 points in a 52-45 win at Barrington, and he did it most efficiently. Weber finished 6-for-12 from the field, which included four 3s, and also went 7-for-7 on free throw - most of them in crunch time, as they accounted for Barrington's last 6 points.
