Vernon Hills wins on senior night
Vernon Hills' girls basketball team honored its seniors on Wednesday, and a pair of them played key roles in the Cougars' 45-33 victory over visiting Lakes in North Suburban Prairie play.
Seniors Dana Meline and Danielle Comitor both finished with 8 points. Meline also had 5 rebounds, and Comitor contributed 2 assists and 2 steals.
Freshman forward Kayla Caudle led all scorers with 16 points and had 14 rebounds and 4 blocks for Vernon Hills, which also honored senior Katie Long and manager Savannah Mansour.
Juniors Natalie Pawlak and Natalie Iacopetti paced Lakes (16-12, 7-4) with 6 points apiece.
Carmel 53, Wauconda 48: Dani DeLozier scored a game-high 24 points for the Corsairs in the nonconference game.
Carmel outscored Wauconda 22-6 in the third quarter.
"Very disappointing tonight," Wauconda coach Jaime Dennis said. "Coming off the Grant win, I expected a lot more. We continue to struggle to put together a complete game. It's tough to beat a team when you play only two quarters. We shot 45 percent from the floor, but unfortunately gave the ball up 24 times. Despite a horrible third quarter, we fought back to have a chance to win. We cut it to 3 with 30 seconds left, but they hit their free throws down the stretch."
Katie Rossetti had 15 points and 10 rebounds for Wauconda (13-11). Corrina Vaughan also scored 15 points for the Bulldogs.
Carmel also got 16 points from Alexa Amato.
Prairie Ridge 47, Grayslake North 35: The visiting Wolves got three players to score in double figures in earning a Fox Valley Fox Division victory.
Brandi Thibeaux paced the Knights with 11 points and Kelley O'Brien had 8.
