Aurora Christian snaps Wheaton Academy's streak

Aurora Christian sophomore Jake Wolfe put his team on his back Tuesday night to help the Eagles finally get Wheaton Academy off their back.

Wolfe scored the go-ahead basket in the final minute, then made 2 free throws to seal the Eagles' 44-41 victory - ending Wheaton Academy's 13-game wining streak over the Eagles.

"It feels good," Wolfe said. "As a team we came together and pulled it out. In the first half we took some bad shots and in the second half we got some good shots and worked together especially on defense."

Wheaton Academy (7-13) and Aurora Christian fought through 10 lead changes and 8 ties, and neither team led by more than 5 points.

That came when Jameson Teuscher swished his third and final 3-pointer, putting the Warriors up 31-26 late in the third.

The Eagles (18-4) regained the lead 34-33 early in the fourth on a Pat McNamara steal and layup - one of his 6 steals.

"The guys hung in there," Eagles coach Pat McNamara said. "We had a little more quickness and got some steals. I thought that was the difference in the second half."

Wolfe spun threw the lane and drew three defenders, and dropped a pass to Andrew Behrens for a bucket and 39-37 lead. Dan Vasko drove to tie the game, and after Wolfe split free throws, a Sam Scharnowski 15-footer gave the Warriors their final lead, 41-40 with 1:20 left.

After Wolfe scored inside, the Warriors missed twice from point-blank range. Wolfe's free throws made it 44-41, and the Eagles missed a 3 at the buzzer.

"We didn't get a stop, we missed a little bunny that would have put us up 1, but at the same time you can't turn the ball over 20-plus times and expect to win a game against a team like that," Warriors coach David Osborn said.

Wolfe led the Eagles with 16 points, and RD Lutze and McNamara scored 9. Thomas Blum paced the Warriors with 16.
