Jacobs falls to New Trier

Jacobs' boys basketball team was hoping for better results than a 47-31 loss to New Trier Saturday afternoon at Loyola's 6th annual War on the Shore.

"We scored 38 points in our win Friday," said Jacobs coach Jim Roberts, "but today scoring 31 points we weren't going to win. We had a lot of good looks but we didn't make our shots."

The Golden Eagles, now 16-4, shot just 34 percent from the field on 11 of 32.

"We competed and played well on defense for the whole game keeping them at 47 points, " added Roberts. "We just need to get better with our offense. This was a good experience playing here and I think we'll be better for it."

New Trier (13-8), from the Central Suburban South, led the entire contest and used a patient offense to get good shots.

"We moved the ball well, set good screens and finished our shots," said Trevians coach Scott Fricke. "We were able to go to the rim strong. With all the good shooters that Jacobs has I thought our defense was great today. On offense we wanted to bring them out and away from the basket. We closed out our plays well."

New Trier started off with a 8-1 run that set the tone for the game.

Dylan Horvitz scored 4 of his team-high 10 points in the initial run. Colin Winchester scored 9 points and had 7 rebounds. Jack French and Aaron Peltz scored 6 points each off the bench for New Trier.

After New Trier built a 25-13 halftime lead, Jacobs could get no closer than 9 points. The Trevians led 36-23 after three quarters.

"When they had the lead between 8 and 10 points," said Roberts, "they maintained it and we couldn't get closer."

Cameron Krutwig led the Golden Eagles with 8 points and 8 rebounds. Ryan Phillips scored 6 points.

"We had them scouted well," said Jacobs point guard Adam Kale. "They did a good job of closing out the middle so we couldn't get an inside game going. We have to drop this one and get back to it. We know we have to compete and now we have to get ready for Huntley on Tuesday."

"We know we are better than what we played like today," said Roberts. "They came out early and knocked down shots and we didn't."
