Sutherland's shots lifts Wauconda past Grant
Hayley Sutherland sank the winning shot at the buzzer, as Wauconda's girls basketball team edged host Grant 36-34 in a North Suburban Prairie Division thriller Friday night.
"I drew up a play during a timeout and they executed it perfectly," Wauconda coach Jaime Dennis said. "It was a great win to build on going into the postseason."
Katie Rossetti had 11 points and 13 points for Wauconda (13-10, 5-6), which got outscored by Grant (13-11, 7-4) 16-7 in the fourth.
"That was the most complete game we played all season," Dennis said. "Execution both offensively and defensively was spot on in the first. We lost our composure a little bit in the fourth. We were playing not to lose rather than playing to win. But we held on to give a shot to win it at the end."
McKaylie Krey and Ally Mahinay each had 10 points for Grant.
Libertyville 43, Lake Zurich 40: Claire Keefe scored a game-high 17 points, as the Wildcats cooled off host Bears in North Suburban Lake action.
Caroline Frea added 12 points for Libertyville (12-10, 6-5), which outscored the Bears 11-2 in the second quarter to lead 23-14 at halftime. The visitors were up 34-23 after three.
"Our communication on defense and our intensity won this game for us," Wildcats coach Greg Pedersen said.
Lake Zurich (13-9, 6-4), which had won 10 of its last 12, received 13 points from Grace Kinsey and nine apiece from McKenna Zobel and Abby Pirron.
Lake Forest 53, Mundelein 28: Maeve Summerville had 19 points and 9 rebounds for the host Scouts, who improved to 2-8 in the North Suburban Lake.
