Larkin's Negron earns Daily Herald MVP honors

Larkin junior Christian Negron has earned Daily Herald MVP honors for his recent effort in the Royals' victory over St. Charles North in boys basketball.

Christian Negron, Larkin: This heavily recruited junior enjoyed one of the best games of his three-year varsity career in a 67-42 victory against visiting St. Charles North. The 6-foot-6 forward who has offers from Illinois, Iowa, DePaul, Butler and Virginia Tech scored a career-high 29 points on 12-of-17 shooting, including 4-of-5 shooting from 3-point range. Negron also hauled down 12 rebounds, made 3 steals and blocked a shot to lift Larkin.

Jack Nolan, Benet: The 5-foot-11 junior showed remarkable consistency during a grueling stretch of five games in five days and four in three days. Nolan averaged 15.6 points as Benet picked up four wins. After beating Notre Dame in ESCC play, the Redwings advanced to the WW South Martin Luther King tournament final.

Paul Steinhaus, Libertyville: They got the ball to Paul, early and often. The senior guard scored 16 of his season-high 27 points (two 3-pointers) in the first quarter, helping the Wildcats bolt to a 29-15 lead en route to a 76-60 win over Grant. He had 10 points, including a long 3-pointer in the final seconds, in a 54-53 loss to Stevenson.

Fulton Wingba, Elk Grove: Wingba helped the Grenadiers retain a share of the Mid-Suburban East lead by producing one of his best games of the season in a 60-45 victory over Wheeling. The 6-foot-4 senior forward scored a game-high 16 points, including both a 3 and a dunk, as Elk Grove improved to 4-1 against conference foes.
