Hersey's Gritt garners Daily Herald MVP honors

Hersey junior guard Claire Gritt has earned Daily Herald MVP honors for her recent contributions in the Huskies' victory against New Trier in girls basketball.

Claire Gritt, Hersey: The junior guard capped Hersey's remarkable comeback from a 19-point deficit against state-ranked New Trier by hitting the game-winnng 3-pointer with 3.2 second left. Gritt scored her 1,000 point and had a team-high 15 in the Chicagoland Invitational Showcase game at Fremd High School.

Erika Gallimore, Antioch: Paige Gallimore starred for the Sequoits a couple of years ago. Now little sister is showing she has plenty of game too. The junior guard shined against Grant in leading the Sequoits to their 17th win in 18 games. She scored a career-high 25 points (two 3-pointers) and grabbed 11 rebounds.

Jaida Green, Downers Grove North: Green, a 6-foot-2 Penn State recruit, scored 21 points against York and then hit for 21 again vs. Marian Catholic, both Downers Grove North victories. The senior guard totaled 18 rebounds, 6 steals, 5 blocked shots and 5 assists in the two games.

Shelby Holt, Burlington Central: The Rockets' 5-foot-8 senior, who went over 1,000 points for her career on Dec. 14, scored 16 points including hitting four 3-pointers last week in a 64-37 Big Northern East win over Johnsburg, a victory that put Burlington Central in firm control of the division race. Holt's two 3-pointers to open the second half helped ignite a 29-0 run that put the game away for the Rockets.
