Kuligoski's big game lifts Round Lake

The result for Zach Kuligoski was a season-high 33 points, as Round Lake's boys basketball team edged Harvest Christian 53-51 to wrap up play in Marengo's 66th annual E.C. Nichols Holiday Classic on Wednesday.

Kuligoski, a 6-foot-3 junior forward, sank 14 shots from the floor and 5 of 7 free throws. Jordan Keith added 8 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, for Round Lake (3-10, 1-3 tournament), which snapped a seven-game losing streak.

Wauconda 48, Richmond-Burton 47: At Marengo, Bryan Nee's buzzer-beating 3-pointer lifted the Bulldogs in their tournament finale.

Wauconda (4-6, 2-2) trailed 16-6 after one quarter but got within 23-21 by halftime and entered the fourth up 35-33.

Jarod Stonis led the Bulldogs with 18 points, including a 3-pointer, while Kyle Drobnik added 10. Nee finished with 5 points.

Lakes 45, South Elgin 44: At Jacobs, Kyle Rohr led a comeback for the Eagles.

Rohr finished with 18 points, as Lakes (5-6, 2-2 tournament) rallied from a nine-point deficit in the second half. Tim Ohlwein chipped in 10 points for the Eagles.

Grant 64, Rockford Jefferson 62: At Jacobs, John Kerr had his second 22-point effort of the tournament, helping the Bulldogs (5-6 overall) improve to 2-2.

Grant also got 20 points from Ben Kusiak.

Vernon Hills 58, Dundee-Crown 37: At Wheeling, the Cougars got their first win in the Hardwood Classic, as junior guard Jack O'Connell led a balanced attack with a season-high 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers.

Jake Helfand added 9 points on three 3s for Vernon Hills (7-6, 1-2 tournament), while Jay Holloway contributed 8 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Jack Forester also had 8 points (two 3-pointers) for the Cougars, who snapped a three-game losing streak.

Vernon Hills will play Streamwood in its tourney finale at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
