Doyle earns Week 3 MVP honors

Benet senior guard Kathleen Doyle has earned Daily Herald MVP honors for her recent high school girls basketball efforts.

Kathleen Doyle, Benet: The Nebraska recruit helped defending state champion Benet to three more victories. The senior guard had 21 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals against Oak Park, plus 13 points, 5 assists, 4 blocks and 2 assists against Vernon Hills despite playing limited minutes in both games. Doyle added 18 points, 5 assists, 5 steals, 3 blocks and 2 rebounds against Marian Catholic.

Ali Andrews, Huntley: With her 21 points in a 55-24 win over Conant, this 6-foot-2 senior who is signed to play at Illinois, eclipsed the 2,000-point mark for her four-year varsity career. She came back later in the week and scored 21 points in each of her team's next two games, a 69-39 win over McHenry and a 46-34 victory over Barrington, which put the Red Raiders at 11-0 for the season.

Sidney Lovitsch, Grayslake North: Looking to snap a three-game losing streak, the Knights went to their go-to scorer. Lovitsch, a junior guard and three-year varsity starter, scored 18 points in a 64-62 win over Woodstock. She then tied her career high of 26 points, as the Knights defeated Woodstock North 51-46.

Maddie Welter, Buffalo Grove: The 5-foot-8 senior guard made it a memorable night by making her school-record eighth 3-pointer the 1,000 point of her career in a 61-45 victory at Elk Grove. Welter (8-of-14 from 3-point range) tied her career-high of 26 points as BG improved to 7-2.
