Sotos earns Week 3 MVP honors

Conant junior guard Jimmy Sotos has earned Daily Herald MVP honors for his recent high school boys basketball performance.

Jimmy Sotos, Conant: Sotos, a junior guard, helped the Cougars pass their first big Mid-Suburban West road test by pouring in a career-high 30 points on 10-for-13 shooting with five 3-pointers as Conant handled Barrington 50-37.

Matthew Meier, Naperville Central: Meier had two of the biggest games of his prep career while leading the Redhawks to a pair of DuPage Valley Conference victories. The 6-foot-2 senior guard scored 23 points in a 59-53 win over Neuqua Valley, then two days later tallied a career-high 29 points in a 55-49 win over Metea Valley. Meier shot 67 percent from the field, made 16 free throws and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Drew Peterson, Libertyville: The Wildcats' 5-2 start has been due, in large part, to the 6-foot-5 sophomore guard. He scored a season-high 27 points, going 11 of 11 from the foul line and 8 of 11 from floor, in a 73-61 win over Hersey. He also had 6 assists, 4 rebounds and 2 blocks.

Jordan Vedder, Geneva: This 6-foot-8 forward was a big reason the Vikings bounced back from their only loss with 3 wins in five days to improve to 7-1. The senior led Geneva with 16 points in a win over Bartlett on Tuesday and scored a team-high 19 points in Saturday's victory over a visiting Australian team. In between, he loomed large in the final seconds of Friday's 56-53 win over Larkin. Vedder scored the go-ahead bucket with 1:21 to play and he grabbed a key offensive rebound with 20 seconds left.
