St. Edward, Harvest Christian notch wins

Yssa Sto. Domingo and Madelyn Spagnola scored 10 points each and had 5 steals each Tuesday night as the St. Edward girls basketball team defeated Fenton 52-22 to open the Metro Suburban West season.

Katelyn Castoro and Izzy Hernandez added 6 points each for the Green Wave (5-0, 1-0).

Harvest Christian 47, DeKalb 33: Paulina Castro had 14 points and 7 steals to lead the Lions (4-2), who were ranked No. 7 in the first Class 1A statewide Associated Press poll on Tuesday, to this nonconference win over the Class 4A Barbs. Alyssa Iverson added 11 points while Jen Kasper had 10 points and 5 steals.

West Chicago 57, Elgin 42: Tianna Stewart scored 17 points to lead Elgin (1-4) in this Upstate Eight crossover loss. Alisha Panthier added 10 points for the Maroons.

Westminster Christian 51, Schaumburg Christian 31: Maddie Versluys scored 30 points and had 4 rebounds, 5 blocked shots and 4 steals while Elise VanNoord added 20 points to lead the Warriors (2-4) to a nonconference win. Hannah Haecker pulled down 8 rebounds for Westminster.

North Shore Country Day 39, Elgin Academy 20: Gia Joyce had 8 points and 13 rebounds and Kalia Higa added 9 points, 5 rebounds and 7 steals for Elgin Academy in this Independent School League loss.
