Batavia, St. Edward complete successful weekends
Hannah Frazier scored 20 points and had 13 rebounds Saturday to lead the Batavia girls basketball team to a 44-32 win over North Lawndale and a 4-1 finish at the Trinity Thanksgiving tournament.
Down by a point at halftime the Bulldogs, who beat highly regarded Trinity 54-50 on Friday night, held North Lawndale to just 12 points in the second half.
Hailey Orman added 9 points for Batavia in Saturday's win while Shea Bayram and Jess Koch each had 6 points. Bethany Orman added 6 assists.
Frazier, who had a career-high 33 points to go with 12 rebounds in the win over Trinity, was named to the all-tournament team along with Bethany Orman and Mackenzie Foster.
St. Edward sweeps at Quincy: The Green Wave defeated Danville 63-53 and Quincy 43-33 on Saturday to go 3-0 and win the Quincy Thanksgiving tournament. In the Danville win, Madelyn Spagnola had a game-high 26 points to lead St. Edward (4-0) while Katelyn Castoro added 19 and Yssa Sto. Domingo 8. Sto. Domingo had 15 points, Spagnola 10 and Castoro 7 in the win over Quincy. Castoro was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player and was joined on the all-tournament team by Spagnola.
West Aurora 45, Waubonsie Valley 30: Ashley Williams had 16 points, 9 rebounds and 6 steals while Carley Freunhoff added 12 points to lead the Blackhawks (3-2) to their third straight win at the Waubonsie Valley tournament. JeMya McClendon added 7 points and 7 rebounds and Kayla Battle pulled down 11 rebounds for West Aurora.
Bartlett 57, Metea Valley 45: On the final day of the Naperville Central/Benet Tip-Off Tournament, Kayla Hare and Kaitlyn Brohan each had 19 points to lead the Hawks (2-2).
Hampshire 47, Maine West 35: Emma Benoit scored 23 points and Nikki Dumoulin added 17 for the Whip-Purs (4-2) at the Hoffman Estates tournament. Benoit and Rachel Dumoulin were named to the all-tournament team.
