Parker Fink scored a game-high 13 points and Bryan Nee and Dylan Latiolais had 12 apiece to help Wauconda's boys basketball team to a 53-41 victory over Guerin Prep in opening-round tournament play Monday at Richmond-Burton.

Nee also contributed 7 assists and 5 rebounds. Latiolais came up with 5 steals, and Alex Reyes had 3 steals and 3 points.

Wauconda wasn't outscored in any quarter and used an 18-10 edge in the second quarter and a 15-11 advantage in the fourth for the 12-point margin of victory.

The Bulldogs made a total of 10 3-pointers, with Fink and Latiolais getting 3 apiece.

Uplift 64, Elk Grove 56: The task of opening the season against the defending Class 2A champions was tough enough for Elk Grove as the Grenadiers opened the season at the Mundelein Tournament.

To make things even more difficult, the Grens found themselves down 20 in the third quarter to the Titans. But Elk Grove answered with a 25-7 run, cutting the margin to 56-53 with 2:02 to play. That was as close as the Grens got in a 64-56 loss.

"Our own worst enemy in the first half was our offense," Elk Grove coach Anthony Furman said. "But we hit a 3 and cut it to 3 and just ran out of time at the end."

Senior Fulton Wingba was a big factor for the Grens with a team-best 22 points, including four 3s. Fellow senior Joey Gatziolis tallied 15 for Elk Grove.

Uplift junior Demarius Jacobs led all scorers with 25. Uplift won this tournament a year ago.

LFA 75, Mundelein 59: The host Mustangs battled back from double-digit deficits in the first and second half only to fall to the Caxys 75-59 at the Mustangs' tournament.

Mundelein took a brief 46-42 lead in the third quarter, only to see it slip away at the hot hands of Lake Forest Academy junior Chris Harris. He led all scorers with 28 points, including 10 in the third quarter as the Caxys pulled away.

Daniel Joseph added 19 for LFA and Brandon Simberg had 14, including four 3-pointers.

Tommy Marcotte led Mundelein with 22 points including four long balls. Sophomore Andrew Silva added 12 for the hosts.
