Gerber, Schaumburg handle Rockford Boylan

This time, it wasn't quite as close at the end.

Schaumburg's girls basketball team kicked off its own Thanksgiving tourney on Tuesday night with a 34-23 victory over Rockford Boylan.

The Saxons also began last season with a triumph over the Titans, but that contest was 62-59.

Junior Mallory Gerber, one of the top attackers in Mid-Suburban League volleyball, showed she can attack the basket, too, scoring a game-high 11 points with 4 field goals and 3 free throws.

Classmate Laura O'Connell added 10 points for the winners while senior Paige Alt, the Saxons standout softball pitcher (Georgia Coastal recruit), added 8 points with a pair of 3-pointers.
