Lake Zurich's McClaughry commits to basketball at Loras

This winter, Will McClaughry was a key player in the middle for Lake Zurich's boys basketball team.

Bears coach Billy Pitcher said his 6-foot-7 center was even more clutch late in games.

"Will has been our go-to guy down the stretch in many games," Pitcher said after the season. "It's great to have a good big guy to get the ball to for a high-percentage shot."

McClaughry recently announced that he will continue taking shots on the collegiate level. He has committed to Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa.

A three-year starter, McClaughry hit 58 percent of his field goals and averaged 12 points this winter. He also hit 16 3-pointers at a clip of 51 percent and he pulled down 6.2 rebounds.

McClaughry was an all-tournament selection at Grant's Thanksgiving tournament and at the Lake Zurich Martin Luther King Classic. He was all conference and IBCA all-state honorable mention selection for the 23-9 Bears.

Former Rolling Meadows standout Kyrsten Becker, who enters her fifth season as a member of the Morehead State volleyball staff and fourth campaign as an assistant coach, has been tabbed by the American Volleyball Coaches Association as one of the nation's top 30 coaches under the age of 30.

"Congratulations to Kyrsten on this terrific honor," coach Jaime Gordon said on the school's website. "She is a great representative of our volleyball program, athletic department and university. Kyrsten's coaching future is very bright. She has accomplished a lot in our profession at a relatively young age."

"Kyrsten continues to take on a lot of responsibility," Gordon said. "Recruiting is the lifeblood of any program, and she works really hard in that area. Kyrsten relates well to our student-athletes and staff. She also does a great job with our social media platforms and external communications."

With Becker on staff, Morehead State went 50-2 (. 962) in Ohio Valley Conference matches from 2011-13 en route to three consecutive regular-season league championships. The Eagles captured conference tournament titles in 2011 and 2013 on their way to NCAA Tournament appearances.
