Lukemeyer steps down at Grant

Bouncing babies are replacing bouncing basketballs in Matt Lukemeyer's world.

Grant's girls basketball coach since 2011, Lukemeyer has announced his resignation.

"This decision was due to growing family obligations," Lukemeyer said. "I just had a daughter (last) April and now we are having a son in July, so we will have two children under the age of 2. It is best for me to be available to help out at home and see my children grow up."

Lukemeyer, a Grant graduate, coached the Bulldogs to double-digit wins in each of the last three seasons. After Grant went 8-19 in his first season, the team won 10, 12 and 11 games in the following three campaigns.

"This was a tough decision, as I will miss the players and the game," Lukemeyer said. "But I know it is the right decision."

There are now three North Suburban Conference girls basketball programs looking for a new head coach. Stevenson decided after the season not to bring back Tom Dineen, and Mundelein's Brian Evans announced his retirement from coaching last week.
