Christian Liberty wins regional opener

Sam Silva scored a team-high 15 points and Paul Weiss had 14 to help Christian Liberty Academy past Roycemore 52-27 in a Class 1A boys basketball regional opener at Chicago St. Benedict on Tuesday.

Roycemore was led in scoring by Spencer Simone (10 points).

The Chargers advance to a 7:30 p.m. Wednesday regional semifinal against Ida Crown, which handled Chicago Waldorf 60-41 on Tuesday behind 12 points from Ethan Frank.

The other semifinal, at 6 p.m. Wednesday, features top regional seed Luther North against St. Benedict.

Palatine 57, Prospect 48: Visiting Palatine produced a 21-point first quarter on the way to claiming a 57-48 victory over host Prospect in the second-place Mid-Suburban League boys basketball crossover on Tuesday.

Mike Williams (19 points), Chris Macahon (13) and Jovone Stricker (10) led the way in scoring for Palatine (21-8), which didn't convert a 3-point but shot 22-for-35 from the field.

Prospect senior guard Kyle Beyak shot 3-for-4 from 3-point range and finished with 13 points to share team-scoring honors with senior forward Peter Fusilero.

The Knights trailed 33-18 at the half but got back in the game by outscoring Palatine 20-10 in the third quarter.

Fremd 48, Rolling Meadows 42: Payton Kim led the way with 15 points for the visiting Vikings, and Zach Schoffstall had 14 as Fremd improved to 18-8 heading into Class 4A sectional play next week.

Schaumburg 49, Buffalo Grove 36: The Saxons' Brendan Parker made three 3s and finished with game-high 18 points to help Schaumburg win its MSL crossover at BG.

Marquis Woodard contributed 13 points for the Saxons, who didn't allow an opponent to score in double figures.

Hans Haller led the Bison with 7 points.
