Prospect selected by Sky for weekly honor

The Chicago Sky has selected Prospect High School's girls basketball squad as its ninth High School Team of the Week winner this season.

The team earned the honor after being nominated for outstanding efforts and achievements as a team and for exemplary behavior within the community.

Competing in the Mid-Suburban League's East Division, the Prospect Knights recently completed a record-setting regular season. The Knights went 10-0 in conference play for the first time since 2001 to win the division title.

The team also tied a conference record for fewest points allowed per game, only giving up 34.5 points on average against divisional foes.

The Knights won tournaments at York and Dundee-Crown and had a record of 24-2 heading into Wednesday's Class 4A playoff game against Grayslake North. The 24 victories ties a school record for wins.

Off the court, the Knights work together to make a positive impact in the community. During the holidays, the team held a food drive to benefit a pantry at a local church. After the food had been collected, the Knights donated their time to help stock and organize the pantry to provide meals and supplies for people in need.

Prospect joins previous winners Oswego, Luther North, Glenbard East, Beecher, Morton, Reavis, Benet Academy and Lyons Township. The Knights are invited to enjoy a Chicago Sky game, where they will have the opportunity to watch the world's best female basketball players. At halftime of the game, the team will be honored at center court.

All teams that compete in IHSA competitions are eligible to win a weekly honor. Nominations from parents, coaches, school faculty members and players are welcome and should be completed on the Chicago Sky website (www.chicagosky.net) through March 11.

At the end of the 12-week program, each weekly winning team will be entered to win the "High School Team of the Year" award for 2015. The winner, determined through online voting, will be announced at halftime at a 2015 Chicago Sky game.
