Girls basketball / Lake County roundup

In the second game Monday at Carmel Catholic, Lake Zurich advanced in Class 4A girls basketball regional play after a 48-41 victory over Deerfield.

Senior forward Elly Daleske scored 16 points to lead the way for Lake Zurich, while Deerfield was led by Jesse Holloway with 15.

The Bears advance to meet Buffalo Grove in regional semifinal play at approximately 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. That game will follow a 6 p.m. tipoff between Stevenson and Mundelein.

Barrington 44, Grayslake Central 42: Barrington produced a 24-point fourth quarter to earn a comeback victory over the Rams in Class 4A regional quarterfinal play at Grayslake Central.

Auri Grayson and Abigail Elo paced Barrington with 12 points apiece.

Senior guard Lauren Spalding had a game-high 14 points to lead the Rams, and Kelly Moroney finished with 9 points.

In Tuesday's regional semifinal games at Grayslake Central, Barrington will meet Hersey at 6 p.m., followed by Wheeling vs. Warren at 7 p.m.

Warren advanced by handling Round Lake 59-24 on Monday at Grayslake Central.

The semifinal winners will meet in the Grayslake Central regional final at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Grayslake North 60, Waukegan 26:

In regional semifinal play Wednesday at Grayslake North, Grayslake North jumped out to an 18-9 first-quarter lead and kept it rolling. Brittney Thibeaux and Sidney Lovitsch scored a game-high 16 points apiece for the Knights while teammate Maggie Fish added 10 points. Thibeaux drained 4 three-pointers.

Grayslake North hosts Prospect at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the first of two regional semifinals at the site.

Grant 40, McHenry 37: Grant held McHenry to 2 points in the first quarter, then managed to hang on for a quarterfinal victory in a regional hosted by the Bulldogs.

McHenry took a 1-point lead midway through the fourth quarter before Grant rebounded for a strong finish.

Junior guard Jasmine Sangster scored a team-high 10 points for Grant; junior guard McKaylie Krey had 8 and and sophomore guard Keyana Linbo finished with 7.

"I was extremely happy with the start," said Grant coach Matt Lukemeyer, whose team was up 19-2 in the first quarter. "That was awesome. I don't think we started that well the whole season. You could tell, though, about halfway through the second quarter, they started really turning up their intensity, getting physical, made it tougher on us on the offensive end. Some of their shots started going in.

"I think they took the lead by one and I was proud of the way we responded to that, because we could have easily just given up and packed it in and gone home. I thought we did a nice job of punching back and taking the lead back."

Grant advances to meet Prairie Ridge in the second regional final Wednesday at approximately 7:30 p.m.
