Metea Valley defends home court on senior night

Emotions ran higher than normal Thursday night for Metea Valley. Senior night meant one last time to defend home court, which is exactly what they did by topping Glenbard East 37-33.

Defense and turnovers were the story of the first quarter-plus. Glenbard East went without a basket nearly the first six minutes of the game. The Mustangs zone kept the Rams from getting points in the paint.

Metea Valley senior Taseandra Parker pulled down 4 first-quarter rebounds and was a presence around the defensive glass all game.

The second quarter belonged to Brianna Hall. The Mustangs forward scored 6 of the team's 8 points, including two free throws.

After a low-scoring first half, the teams figured out how to get to the basket in the second half. The Rams' Brasia Solid scored a game-high 13 points.

Turnovers remained an issue for the Mustangs, and with just more than five minutes left in the game Glenbard East pulled to within 27-25.

"I think from our previous games, that's where we get our bread and butter from is defensively," said Metea Valley coach Cedric Williams. "We didn't come out with that defensive intensity. We'll figure it out tomorrow, go back to the drawing board, watch a little bit of film and correct some issues before the postseason."

Hall led the Mustangs with 11 points. Parker and fellow senior Sidney Bobo hit free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
