Girls basketball: Fox Valley roundup Tuesday, Feb. 10

Burlington Central seniors Alison Colby and Aly DeTamble saved their best for last - well, last on Rocket Hill anyway.

Colby scored a career-high 28 points and DeTamble added a career-high 17 on senior night as the Rockets rolled to an 83-40 win over Marengo, wrapping up their third straight undefeated Big Northern East title with their 38th straight division win.

The big outburst leaves Colby just 20 points short of 1,000 for her career.

Kayla Ross added 10 points for the Rockets (24-3, 14-0), who were ranked No. 2 in the AP Class 3A state poll again this week, just one voting point behind No. 1 Normal U-High.

Harvest Christian 61, Mooseheart 13: Nine players in all scored at least once for the Lions (22-6) as they dominated in the Class 1A regional at Harvest Christian. Paulina Castro led with a game-high 26 points while Kylee Knox finished with 10. Harvest will face Hinckley-Big Rock in the regional final at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Cary-Grove 42, Maine West 35: Candace Cunningham led the way offensively for the Trojans (10-15) once again as they snapped a 2-game losing streak in a nonconference win. Cunningham was the only Trojan in double digits, finishing with 16 points.

Woodstock 50, Hampshire 46: Despite defeating the Blue Streaks just 6 days ago in Fox Valley Conference Fox Division play, the Whip-Purs (20-6, 10-2) could not generate enough offense down the stretch, snapping a 9-game winning streak in a loss at home. Emma Benoit finished with a game-high 16 points while Nikki Dumoulin ended the game with 10. The loss denied Hampshire the outright Fox title, which the Whips now share with Prairie Ridge.

Batavia 61, Larkin 54: Marlee Kyles and Quixmia Washington took charge but the Royals lost a tough Upstate Eight River battle to Batavia at home. Larkin (6-18, 2-9) trailed by only one at halftime but Kyles' 28 points and Washington's 18 points were not enough to fight back against the Bulldogs.
