Versluys' record 37 points lead Westminster to regional win

Westminster Christian junior Maddie Versluys picked the perfect time to break her own school scoring record.

Versluys hit for 37 points, including 17 in the fourth quarter, as the Warriors defeated Willows Academy 70-62 in the first round of the Class 2A Walther Christian regional.

The 37 points broke Versluys' own single-game scoring record of 35, which she set earlier this season.

Jaks Kelty had 14 points for Westminster (11-16) and Emma Kovachevich added 11.

The Warriors will face top-seeded IC Catholic in the 6 p.m. semifinal on Wednesday.

Girls basketball

Streamwood 47, Addison Trail 37: On senior night in Streamwood it was sophomore Jenejha Williams who stole the show, helping the Sabres (9-17) to a nonconference victory. Williams finished with a big double-double, 18 points and 13 rebounds, while adding 4 blocks. It was the three seniors who rounded out the scoring for the Sabres, with Kianna Jeremiah finishing with 17 points along with 8 assists and 4 steals. Cayla Hawkins added 10 points and Nathalie Guindon finished with a basket.

Mooseheart 33, Elgin Academy 13: Michelle Peyton had 7 points and 6 rebounds for the Hilltoppers, who saw their season come to an end at the Class 1A Harvest Christian regional.

Boys basketball

F.W. Parker 61, Elgin Academy 45: A 24-point outburst from Dee Robinson was not enough as the Hilltoppers fell on the road in Independent School League play. Jordan Hare added 8 points for EA while teammate Armin Ward finished with 6.
