Landmark victory for Vernon Hills
Vernon Hills' boys basketball team enjoyed a historic night Saturday.
Robby Nardini dropped in a game-high 25 points, Cory Levin added 19 and Matt Weaver chipped in 13, as the Cougars notched their school-record 21st win, 73-66 over host Wauconda in a North Suburban Prairie Division contest.
Vernon Hills' only other 20-win season came in the 2001-02 campaign.
"It's a big step for us," coach Matt McCarty said after his Cougars improved to 21-3 and 9-0 in the NSC Prairie. "It's a another milestone, but we still have some work to do ahead of us. It's nice to have it on our resume."
Wauconda (12-10, 6-4) trailed by 18 points in the third quarter but pulled within six late in the fourth. Nardini and Levin made sure the Bulldogs did not get closer.
Wauconda got a strong effort from Ben Carlson, who had 17 points and 17 rebounds. Dylan Latiolais chipped in 14 points coming off the bench and Zac Lahrman added 10.
