Burlington Central moves to No. 2 in AP poll

Burlington Central's 51-37 upset win over Montini on Saturday impressed the statewide media who vote on the Associated Press girls basketball weelly poll.

The Rockets, now 21-3 after their 72-18 win over Harvard Tuesday, jumped from No. 10 in the Class 3A poll to No. 2 this week, garnering 73 points including one first-place vote.

Normal U-High (24-1) is the new No. 1 team in the poll with 85 points. The Pioneers were No. 3 last week.

Montini (22-5), the two-time defending Class 3A champ, slipped to No. 5 in this week's poll.

Burlington Central 72, Harvard 18: Rebecca Gerke scored 17 points and Kayla Ross had 16 as the Rockets (21-3, 11-0) won for the 35th straight time in Big Northern East play. Sam Pryor added 13 points for BC to move to within 25 points of 1,000 for her career.

CL South 56, Mundelein 53: Chanel Fanter scored 22 points as the Gators (17-6) won in nonconference action. Hailee Massie (9 points, 7 rebounds), Gabby DeJesus (9 points), Kianna Clark (8 points, 7 rebounds) and Taylor Jozefowicz (8 points) also contributed for Crystal Lake South.
