Girls basketball: Fox Valley roundup Thursday, Jan. 29

Bartlett's girls basketball team avoided an upset bid at East Aurora Thursday night and stayed tied with Neuqua Valley for the lead in the Upstate Eight Conference Valley Division race with a 39-34 win.

Junior Kaitlin Brohan led the Hawks (16-7, 9-1) with 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Lauren Janczak added 9 points to the win.

Burlington Central 78, Marengo 23: With a comfortable 37-point halftime lead, the Rockets (19-3, 10-0) continued to dominate in their division with their 34th straight Big Northern East win. Sam Pryor led the offense with 17 points, but was not alone for a big night. Shelby Holt added 13 points while Alison Colby and Kristina Ahlers netted 14 and 10 respectively.

Geneva 68, Streamwood 20: Scoring just 5 points before the half, the Sabres (7-16, 5-7) could not get their offense started in an Upstate Eight River loss. Kianna Jeremiah led the Sabres with 6 points while Cayla Hawkins added 5.

St. Charles North 65, Larkin 41: Despite a big offensive outburst from Marlee Kyles, the Royals (6-18, 2-8) found themselves down early in a home UEC River defeat. Kyles finished with a game-high 18 points and Quixmia Washington followed her with 14 points for the Royals.

St. Francis 59, Westminster 36: The Warriors (9-14) dug themselves a big halftime deficit and could not come back in a nonconference loss on the road. Maddie Versluys led the way with 18 points, giving her 1,207 for her career and putting her 12 points shy of tying Stacey Malhman's school career scoring record. Elise Van Noord also scored in double-digits with 10 points for the Warriors.

South Elgin 41, Metea Valley 39: Laura McIntosh had 12 points while Delaney Kelleher and Mackie Kelleher added 8 each to lead the Storm (14-9, 7-4) to a UEC Valley win in Aurora.

Newark 53, Harvest Christian 52: Taking on a potential sectional opponent on the road, the Lions (19-5) came up just short in nonconference action against Newark (17-7). Paulina Castro had 21 points and Kylee Knox added 15 to lead Harvest.

Batavia 63, Elgin 16: In the UEC River, Mimi Hernandez and Destiny West each had 6 points for Elgin (4-19, 0-11).

Mooseheart 40, Elgin Academy 11: Michelle Peyton had 4 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals for the Hilltoppers in their nonconference loss.
