Wojcik, Rolling Meadows get back to .500
The Rolling Meadows boys basketball team notched its second win of the season over Wheeling with a 70-57 win in a Mid-Suburban East test Saturday.
The visiting Mustangs, who won the first meeting 66-60 after trailing by 18 points in the third quarter, improved to 9-9 and 4-2 in the East while Wheeling slipped to 4-14 and 1-5.
Matt Wojcik led the Mustang with 20 points, followed by sophomore Jared Murphy (19) and classmate Jack Schoessling (15).
Luka Pavlakis led the Mustangs, who moved into a tie for second place in the East with Elk Grove, with 6 rebounds.
"Our kids battled very hard and played well," said Mustangs coach Kevin Katovich. "I was proud of our resilience."
Schaumburg 37, Hoffman Estates 35: Schaumburg snapped a nine-game losing streak as it defeated visiting Hoffman for the second time in the MSL West to improve to 8-14 and 3-3.
Senior Brendan Parker and junior Jason Schoo each scored 9 points to pace the Saxons.
Senior guard Marquis Woodard made a layup with 36 seconds left that gave the hosts the lead for good.
Junior Eric Rushing added a free throw with two seconds remaining for the game's final point.
Maine West 47, Collins 39: Maine West's boys basketball team topped visiting Collins High School of Chicago 47-39 as senior Matt Acevedo connected for four 3-pointers en route to 16 points.
Marian Johnson added 12 points for the winners while Julian Dones had 7.
The Warriors (4-13) converted seven 3-pointers, including one apiece from Dones, Angel Kelly and Stefan Balaban.
