Keefe paces Libertyville against Wauconda

Claire Keefe scored a game-high 13 points, as Libertyville's girls basketball team held off host Wauconda 42-31 in a North Suburban Conference crossover Thursday night.

Becky Deichl and Caroline Frea added 10 and 9 points, respectively, for Libertyville (12-7), which was playing its first game since Jan. 10.

Katie Rossetti had 11 points, 9 rebounds and 4 steals for Wauconda (7-10), which also suffered a tough loss the previous night to Antioch.

Corrina Vaughan added 6 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals for the Bulldogs.

"Another good effort," Wauconda coach Jaime Dennis said. "We played them tough and didn't back down. The final score is not indicative of how close the game was."

Wauconda led most of the opening quarter and enjoyed a 12-9 edge going into the second, but Libertyville pulled ahead 17-13 by halftime.

The Wildcats increased their lead to 27-19 entering the final quarter. Wauconda got within 5 points with 1:30 left, but Libertyville hit its free throws down the stretch.

"I am pleased with the effort," Dennis said. "We are starting to put things together. We keep playing like this and we are going to surprise some people."
