Boys basketball: Week 6 MVP
Dundee-Crown senior guard Kiwaun 'Kiwi' Seals has earned Daily Herald boys basketball MVP honors for his recent performances, which included setting a school record for points in a single game.
Kiwaun 'Kiwi' Seals, Dundee-Crown: This senior guard scored 75 points in three games last week and his record-setting performance in a 50-48 victory over Cary-Grove was one for the books. Seals set a new Dundee-Crown single-game scoring record with 42 points on 16-of-28 shooting from the field and 10-of-11 shooting from the free throw line, capped by his game-winning free throws with 2.2 seconds left. He scored 36 straight points for the Chargers, eclipsing the previous school record of 17 in a row.
Brett Czerak, Aurora Central Catholic: The 6-foot-1 forward scored 48 points in two Chargers wins. Czerak scored 22 points in a 78-71 Metro Suburban West win at IC Catholic Prep and tallied 26 in a 61-58 nonconference home game with Montini. The sophomore made 8 of 14 3-point shots and 55 percent overall, adding 8 assists.
Patrick McNamara, St. Viator: The Lions' senior guard took charge against Marian Catholic, scoring a game-high 28 points and helping keep St. Viator in charge of the East Suburban Catholic race by fueling a 65-48 victory. McNamara finished with 10-for-15 shooting from the field, which included 5-for-7 from 3-point range.
Robby Nardini, Vernon Hills: An early fourth-quarter exit, with the Cougars comfortably ahead, might have cost the Wisconsin-Stevens Point recruit a shot at Chris Argianis' school record of nine 3-pointers in a game. Nardini wasn't complaining, however. He finished with eight 3s and 26 points in a 66-28 win over Wauconda.
Zach Walsh, Glenbard East: The 6-foot-2 junior guard was in the middle of a pair of Upstate Eight Conference Valley Division wins. Walsh scored 10 points with 5 rebounds and 2 steals in a 42-41 win over Metea Valley. The next night he had 12 points, 6 boards, 3 assists and 2 steals to help beat South Elgin 68-53.
