Girls basketball: Week 6 MVP

St. Charles North senior forward Nichole Davidson has earned Daily Herald girls basketball MVP honors for her recent performances.

Nichole Davidson, St. Charles North: The versatile senior has changed her role this year, moving from power forward to a "point forward." She's responded by leading her team in assists in addition to averaging 15 points a game, and she was at it again in a 47-34 win over Batavia with 16 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals after posting 10 points, 4 rebounds, 2 blocked shots and 7 assists against Glenbard North.

Shelby Holt, Burlington Central: In three wins last week, the Rockets' junior scored 39 points, went 4-for-13 on 3-pointers, 7-for-8 on free throws, had 4 rebounds, 3 steals and 6 assists. She scored 18 points in a 49-34 win over Johnsburg, 6 in an 86-12 rout of Harvard and 15 in a 62-38 victory over South Elgin at the Chicagoland Invitational Showcase.

Emari Jones, Wheaton North: The 6-foot-1 senior guard had 29 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals in a 65-60 nonconference victory against Metea Valley. Then she scored 26 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in an 84-70 victory at Dubuque (Iowa) Senior. She also had 5 assists and 3 steals in Iowa, going 10 of 10 at the free-throw line.

Annie Korff, Hersey: Korff helped Hersey avenge a loss to Buffalo Grove by scoring 18 points with 5 rebounds and 3 blocked shots in a 56-48 win over the Bison. She came back the next day and scored a team-high 18 points with 6 rebounds and 4 assists against state-ranked Marian Catholic.

Shannon Zogran, Antioch: Since a serious leg injury to Alexis Duehr, the 5-foot-4 senior guard has seen her playing-time increased. She's taken full advantage of it. Zogran's 19 points and four 3-pointers (both career bests) led the Sequoits past Lakes 74-47.
