Girls basketball / Lake County roundup

Isabella Quaranta heated up Lakes' gym, scoring 20 points and pulling down 10 rebounds, as Lakes beat visiting Richmond-Burton 52-38 in a nonconference girls basketball game Tuesday night.

"Izzy" is really developing her game," Eagles coach Pete Schneider said. "She is becoming a very good basketball player and has no limits as to what she can become."

Ellie Haviland added 15 points and dished out 8 assists, as Lakes improved to 9-8.

"It's hard to say enough about what Ellie brought to the game," Schneider said. "She handled the ball, and hounded (Rockets guard Allie) Hogan. We are still down a couple of players and the kids knew they had to step up to fills some roles."

Another Lakes player who stepped up was Nicole Denman.

"(She) played exceptional post defense," Schneider said. "She may not be the tallest post player, but she will make you work for every basket. Alyssa Brey and Shannon Hurlbut got after it on defense (too), helping (force) Richmond-Burton into 18 turnovers.

"I like the way the kids have responded after a tough loss (to Antioch) on Saturday," Schneider added. "They know they did not play very well and came back to practice and got after it. They are showing some maturity and working hard."

Jillian Townsend and Hogan led Richmond-Burton with 11 and 9 points, respectively.

Grayslake North 52, Woodstock North 39: Sidney Lovitsch scored 23 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, as the host Knights won the Fox Valley Fox contest.

Brandi Thibeaux added 7 points for Grayslake North (7-9, 4-2).
