Girls basketball: Week 5 MVP

Benet junior guard Kathleen Doyle has earned Daily Herald MVP honors for her recent efforts, which helped lead the Redwings to a triumph in Montini's girls basketball holiday tournament.

Kathleen Doyle, Benet: The junior point guard and A-plus student showed why she is attracting attention from so many major-college programs by helping the undefeated Redwings win the Montini Christmas Tournament title and being named MVP. She had 12 points and 6 steals in the final after getting 14 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals in the semifinal against Montini.

Ali Andrews, Huntley: In leading the Red Raiders to a fifth-place finish at the Montini Christmas Tournament, this 6-foot-2 junior had 79 points in her team's three wins, including 28 against Batavia, 26 against Geneva and 25 in a 47-44 win over Neuqua Valley. Including Huntley's loss to Montini, the Illinois recruit averaged 23.5 points in the tournament as well as pulling in 43 rebounds.

Katie Claussner, St. Charles East: The senior point guard earned all-tournament honors at the Wheaton North Falcon Classic after averaging 17.5 points in the Saints' four games, scoring at least 14 in all four. St. Charles East finished fourth, tying its best finish at the tournament.

Deanna Kuzmanic, Wheeling: Kuzmanic appeared four straight years at the Warren Invite and her closing act was a show stopper. The senior guard finished with games of 24, 25 and 28 points. She helped lead the Wildcats to the tournament title (5-0) averaging 19.6 points. Kuzmanic made it four straight 20-plus scoring games and ninth of the season when she netted 24 in a 46-36 win at Barrington.

Amy Reiser, Antioch: The Sequoits stretched their winning streak to 11 games in capturing Lisle's Holiday Cage Classic, as the sophomore guard netted MVP honors. The twin sister of fellow all-tourney pick Ashley Reiser, she averaged 14.2 points over four games, scoring 17 in the title game against Hampshire.
