Fremd to showcase top girls basketball talent

Fremd girls basktball coach Dave Yates has one of the best girls basketball teams in the state this season.

This weekend, he has invited some of the other best in this state and a few from bordering Indiana to participate in the Chicagoland Invitational Showcase 2015 in Palatine.

Among the teams are Whitney Young and Heritage Christian (Ind.), ranked No. 12 and 20 respectively in the ESPNW Power 25 National Rankings. Fremd and Montini also spent some time in this poll earlier in the season.

Some of the top players in the nation will grace the North and South gyms of Fremd High School to compete in the two-day event on Saturday and Sunday.

Guard Katlyn Gilbert (Heritage Christian) and center Lindsey Jarosinski (Montini) are on the ESPN Hoopgurlz 2018 Watchlist.

The 2017 ESPN HoopGurlz 2017 rankings include point guard Dana Evans of Gary Westside, ranked No. 12.

The ESPN HoopGurlz 2016 rankings include guard Nicole Ekhomu of Joliet Catholic (26th on the list), guard Kiara Lewis of Whitney Young (29th), point guard Tyasha Harris of Heritage Christian (38th) and power forward Darby Foresman of Heritage Christian (43rd).

Fremd's very own guard Haley Gorecki is ranked 55th in the ESPN HoopGurlz 2015 rankings while point guard Teniya Page of Marian Catholic is 55th.
