Boys basketball / Lake County roundup

Grant's boys basketball team didn't have the services of junior guard Pierre Bailey for its first eight games this season. Since the Mundelein transfer made his season debut at Jacobs' Hinkle Holiday Classic, he made an impact.

Bailey and Jason Kaye each scored 16 points Saturday morning, as Grant concluded the tournament with its first win of the season, 71-67 in overtime against Johnsburg.

Grant (1-11, 1-4) also received 13 points from Ben Kusiak and 11 from Jacob Hanlin, who scored 8, including a pair of 3-pointers, in OT.

Johnsburg junior guard Nick Whiting led all scorers with 27 points.

Prospect 59, Libertyville 55: Senior Kyle Beyak made five 3s and shot 6-for-6 from the foul line to help Prospect wrap a fifth-place finish and a 3-1 Wheeling Hardwood Classic tournament record with a 59-55 victory over Libertyville.

Beyak finished with a game-high 23 points. Frankie Mack had 10 points for the Knights, and Ernest Kiseliovas had a pair of 3-pointers.

Libertyville (6-6) got 16 points from Ben Kimpler, 13 from Paul Steinhaus and 11 from Joe Borcia. The Wildcats shot 21-for-34 from 2-point range but made just one 3 in finishing 2-2 at Wheeling.

Grayslake Central 55, Plainfield South 26: At Illinois Wesleyan University's Shirk Center, Michael Benko scored 16 points, as the Rams picked up their first win in the State Farm Holiday Classic.

Grayslake Central (4-5), which snapped a five-game losing streak, also received 13 points from Sam Ruhlmann and 10 from David Llorens.

Sycamore 59, Antioch 53: At Marengo, Weston Fox's 14 points and Kyle Gofron's 12 weren't enough for the Sequoits, who dropped the third-place game in the E.C. Nichols Tournament.

Antioch (5-7, 2-2 tourney) also received 9 points from Brandon Dade and 8 from Trevor Koch.

Westminster 75, Round Lake 54: At Marengo, Dallas Soto and Austin Soto each scored 18 points and sank four 3-pointers, but the Panthers lost the seventh-place game in the E.C. Nichols Tournament.

Round Lake (3-9, 1-3 tourney) also received 12 points from Cezar Rogers.

Woodstock 57, Wauconda 54: At Marengo, the Bulldogs dropped the fifth-place game in the E.C. Nichols tournament, despite Ben Carlson's 19 points and 6 rebounds.

Wauconda (8-5, 2-2 tourney), which lost to the Blue Streaks for the second time this season, also got 12 points from Ricky Sidlowski and 9 from Matt Bulgarelli.

Rockton Hononegah 63, Grayslake Central 52: Late Friday night at Normal West, the Rams dropped their opening game in the State Farm Holiday Classic.

Michael Benko led Grayslake Central with 17 points, while David Llorens added 13, including three 3-pointers.
