Sophomore point guard Ashley Reiser scored a game-high 17 points and hustled for 10 rebounds, and Antioch's girls basketball team opened the Lisle Holiday Cage Classic with a 59-31 win over Walther Christian on Friday.
Fellow sophomore Erika Gallimore added 12 points, 8 rebounds and 4 steals for the Sequoits, who stretched their winning streak to eight games. Sophomore Amy Reiser had 11 points for top-seeded Antioch (11-2), which plays host Lisle at 6:30 p.m. today.
The Sequoits also received a boost from junior Kelly Johnson, who hauled in 7 rebounds and "helped provide leadership on the court," coach Tim Borries said, when the Antioch bench saw substantial minutes. Shannon Zogran chipped in 8 points, including a pair of 3-pointers.
Stevenson 59, Barrington 48: At Dundee-Crown, Sophia Way scored 17 points, shooting 3 of 5 from three-point range, and grabbed 8 rebounds, and the Patriots won their opener in the Charger Classic.
Ashley Richardson added 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for Stevenson (12-0), who also got 10 points from freshman Kiana Cencula.
Warren 45, Grayslake Central 28: At Warren, the host Blue Devils improved to 4-0 in their own tournament, as freshman Jordyn Hughes scored a game-high 10 points.
Warren (5-8) also received 9 points from Sammi Jo Nixon and 8 from Rebekah Foley. Alexis Young dished out 7 assists and Jocelyn Bell grabbed 7 rebounds for the Wildcats, who play Wheeling at 4:30 p.m. today in the championship game.
Lauren Spalding had 8 points and 5 steals for Grayslake Central (4-11, 2-2 tourney). Connor Eschrich added 5 points and 8 rebounds.
Carmel 50, Phillips 43: At Warren, Emma Rappe had 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals for the Corsairs.
Carmel (6-8, 2-2) also received 10 points from Alexa Amato (two 3-pointers), while Daija Pruitt contributed 9 points, 10 rebounds and 3 steals. The Corsairs play Lake Forest at 1:30 p.m. today in their finale.
Phillips' Courtnee Williams led all scorers with 22 points.
Wheeling 54, Palatine 38: At Warren, Alabama-Birmingham-bound Deanna Kuzmanic racked up 25 points, 6 steals, 4 assists and 4 rebounds for the Wildcats, who play host Warren at 4:30 p.m. today for the championship.
Palatine received 16 points from Monica Masini.
Lake Forest 64, Deerfield 47: At Warren, Brooke Green scored 18 points, and Grace Torkelson added 17 points and 13 rebounds for the Scouts, who improved to 8-7 and 2-2 in the tournament.
Jesse Holloway had 18 points for Deerfield.
Grayslake North 44, Champaign Central 31: At Mundelein, Sidney Lovitsch and Abby Fish scored 12 and 11 points, respectively, as the Knights (5-8) picked up their first win in the tournament after dropping their first two games.
Grayslake North plays Niles West at 10:30 a.m.
Prairie Ridge 37, Lake Zurich 35 (OT): At Mundelein, the Bears outscored the Wolves 15-2 in the fourth quarter to force overtime, then got outscored 2-0 in the extra session.
Abby Pirron and Elly Daleske had 11 and 10 points, respectively, for Lake Zurich (5-7, 1-2), which wraps up the tournament with a noon tipoff today against Hoffman Estates.
Cary-Grove 44, Mundelein 25: At Mundelein, Katie Baker's 16 points led the Trojans.
Natalie Busscher scored 10 points for Mundelein (6-7, 1-2), which plays Grant at 3:30 p.m.
