Robby Nardini poured in a season-high 30 points, including four 3-pointers, as Vernon Hills' boys basketball team defeated Maine West 74-62 in the Wheeling Hardwood Classic on Tuesday.
Vernon Hills (9-2) had seen its six-game winning streak snapped against Libertyville in its tournament opener Monday. Bo Manso and Matt Weaver added 17 and 13 points, respectively, for the Cougars.
Zion Benton 74, Lakes 65: At Jacobs, Tennessee-bound Admiral Schofield led the Zee-Bees with 25 points.
Kienan Baltimore added 22 for Zion-Benton.
Lakes (4-8, 1-2 tourney) was led by Ethan Sage with 24 points. David Milostan added 13.
Marengo 42, Antioch 41: At Marengo, the Sequoits dropped a heartbreaker in third-day action of the E.C. Nichols tournament.
Trevor Koch and Kyle Gofron scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, for Antioch (5-6, 2-1 tourney), which plays Sycamore in the third-place game at 6 p.m. Saturday.
Wauconda 51, Westminster 48: At Marengo, Ben Carlson's 13 points led three scorers in double figures for the Bulldogs.
Dylan Latiolais and Matt Bulgarelli added 12 and 10 points, respectively, for Wauconda (8-4, 2-1 tourney), which takes on Woodstock at 4:30 p.m. Saturday in the fifth-place game.
Woodstock 42, Round Lake 34: At Marengo, Cezar Rogers led the Panthers with 10 points.
Round Lake will play Westminster at 3 p.m. Saturday in the seventh-place game.
Winnebago 82, Mundelein 62: At DeKalb, the Mustangs fell to 0-2 in the tournament, despite 13 points apiece from Tyler Olson and Tommy Marcotte.
Malik Doby had 10 points for Mundelein (0-11), and Kevin Marcotte added 8.
