Glenbard North moves to consolation bracket
Glenbard North can't wait to get all of its girls basketball players back and healthy again.
The Panthers (4-8) fell into the consolation bracket at Wheaton North's Bill Neibch Falcon Holiday Classic on Monday with a 55-20 loss to fourth-seeded Lyons Twp.
"We've been without our two big dogs here for about a week and a half," Panthers coach John Chamberlain said about top players Zakiya Newsome (concussion) and Jennifer Deegan (flu). "... We only went six deep to begin with, so now I'm plugging in Nos. 7, 8 and 9 and they're just not ready. They're young. So you knew facing a seeded team they were going to have an uphill climb, for sure."
The Panthers trailed 14-2 after one quarter, in part because of 6 turnovers and 0-of-4 shooting from the floor.
"We're not real patient with our offense," Chamberlain said. "And once we got a little bit better, running some offense for some passes, I thought we did some good things. It didn't always result in knocking down a shot, but we got some good looks. So I was pretty pleased with that."
Sophomore Hannah Heier led Glenbard North with 6 points.
The Panthers meet tournament host Wheaton North at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
