Westminster's Verluys hits 1,000 mark

Westminster Christian 49, Holy Trinity 25: Warriors' junior Maddie Versluys scored the 1,000th point of her career in her team's win in the opening round of the Guerin tournament. Versluys, who became the first junior in school history to reach 1,000 points, hit for 27 in the win, and added 10 steals and 6 rebounds. "Obviously it's a great accomplishment but I couldn't have scored any of my points without my teammates," Versluys said. "I've been looking forward to it but it couldn't have happened without my teammates." Westminster is now 7-4 on the season.

Proviso East 81, Larkin 44: Megan Chwee had 16 points and Quixma Washington 14 for Larkin at the Oswego East tournament. Sam Wahl added 7 points for the Royals (3-9), who played without leading scorer Marlee Kyles who had to sit out the game after being ejected from Larkin's game against St. Charles North last week.

Hersey 88, Elgin 16: Bri Stewart had 8 points for the Maroons (2-9) in their loss at the Wheaton North tournament.

Jacobs 42, Willowbrook 27: Jessica Powell scored 15 points and Maggie Grady added 9 to lead the Golden Eagles (5-6) to a win at Wheaton North. No. 8 seed Jacobs will play No. 1 seed Glenbrook South in Tuesday's quarterfinals.

Cary-Grove 49, Lake Zurich 36: Katie Barker scored 29 points to lead the Trojans (6-7) in the first round of the Mundelein tournament, putting her 17 points within 1,000 for her career. Candace Cunningham added 12 points for Cary-Grove.

Rolling Meadows 63, Streamwood 20: At Mundelein, Jenejha Williams had 11 points for Streamwood (3-9).
