Prospect produces a win at Wheeling

Prospect's perfect girls basketball season continued on Friday night as the Knights captured a 44-33 victory on the road at Wheeling.

Senior Taylor Will led all scorers with 20 points while classmate Catherine Sherwood chipped in 13 and junior Nikki Matters 10.

The Mid-Suburban East leaders improved to 9-0 and 3-0 while Wheeling stands at 7-4 and 1-2.

Senior Deanna Kuzmanic led the Wildcats with 16 points while Hannah Dobrowski added 8.

The Knights led 23-10 at intermission.

"We played great defense in the first half," said Knights coach Ashley Graham. "We mixed it up on defense and everyone did a great job. We showed a lot of pride in our individual and team defense."

Buffalo Grove 74, Elk Grove 52: This MSL East game featured 21 3-point baskets.

Senior Julie Jambrone scored a career-high 24 points (two 3-pointers) to help lead the Bison who also received double-figure scoring from junior Maddie Welter (17 points) and Maddy Callahan (15).

Welter connected for five 3-pointers while Welter had 3 as the Bison clicked for a season-high 10.

BG (10-1, 2-1) also received 7 points from junior Sammy Stejskal.

The Grens (3-7, 0-3) collected a season-best 11 3-pointers led by Taylor Matos' five for a career-high 17 points.

Alex Masnica had four from long range and finished with 12 points while Amber Lindfors (11) also reached double figures for visiting Elk Grove.

Mackenzie Flannery had the other 3-pointers for the Grens.

Palatine 44, Schaumburg 41: Junior Amy Shapiro scored a game-high 22 points as Palatine improved to 4-6 and 1-2. Katie Conklin was 6-of-8 from the free throw line for 6 points.

Cora Jacobsen and Tiana Henderson each hit 3-pointers for the Pirates.

Schaumburg (4-6, 1-2) was led by Tatiana Doroskin (16 points) and Jada Blackwell (9). Teammate Brittany Reinhart added a 3-pointer.

Deerfield 45, Maine West 43: Host Deerfield moved into a tie for first place with Maine West in the Central Suburban North.

Junior guard Kayla Pociewjeski (4 steals) and freshman Catherine Johnson (4 rebounds) each scored 9 points to lead the Warriors (4-7, 3-1).

Freshman Allison Pearson chipped in 8 points and Michelle Fox had 7.

Fremd 47, Bishop Alemey 46: Brianna Lewis did it again.

As a freshman, her 3-pointer at the overtime buzzer in the Mid-Suburban League championship game against Rolling Meadows.

On Friday in the Nike Tournament of Champions, Lewis hit the game-winning 8-footer at the buzzer of regulation.

Bishop Alemey's Brianna Calhoun hit a 3-pointer with 12 seconds left to put her team ahead 46-45.

Bishop Alemey is the No. 11 ranked team in California.

Haley Gorecki scored a team-high 24 points with 7 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the Vikings (12-1).

Lewis finished with 10 points, 5 assists and 3 steals while teammate Bryana Hopkins contributed 7 points, 9 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 assists.

"Brianna hit a big shot to answer their 3 pointer," said Fremd coach Dave Yates. "She is a competitor so it doesn't surprise me that she hit that shot.

"That is one of the better teams in the Los Angeles area (2013 state champs) and they gave us all we could handle. They were very athletic and very well-coached. It was a battle all game long with each team hitting big shot after big shot.

"It was an amazing game between two very evenly-matched teams".

Fremd moves on to the final four of the Mike Desper division, facing off with Horizon of Brighton Colorado at 6 p.m. Saturday.
